Once again, HARTING is among the top 5 candidates for the Hermes Award

The HARTING Technology Group’s product innovations have received recognition for the third time and have once again been nominated for the Hermes Award technology prize.

Dr. Wolfgang Wahlster, chair of the Hermes Award jury, said: “In view of the high quality of many submissions, the jury was faced with an extremely difficult task in deciding on five nominations. Outstanding international achievement is required to reach the final round.” The jury received more than 70 applications.

The Hermes Award has been presented by Deutsche Messe AG since 2004 as part of the Hannover Messe trade fair, the world’s most important industrial fair, and is the most valuable technology award on the international stage, with prize money of €100,000. HARTING was previously nominated in 2005, and won the coveted Hermes Award technology prize for its RFID technology in 2006.

Once again, the HARTING Technology Group ranked among this year’s top 5 candidates with its new fast track switching technology. This technology enables the acceleration of automation protocols for the first time. The switches feature a “fast track” providing automation messages with a kind of overtaking or fast lane, ensuring messages are sent immediately. This prevents detrimental, cost-generating delays in automation, and makes the real time performance required possible for the first time.

The winner of the technology award has not yet been revealed. The Hermes Award will be presented at the opening ceremony of the Hannover Messe on April 19, 2009 by German Federal Chancellor, Angela Merkel, and the Federal Minister of Education and Research, Dr. Annette Schavan.

“Nomination for the HERMES AWARD alone is a great honor for all candidates, and we are delighted to be among the favorites again this year with our new technology. Innovation is a key factor for us as a technology group in international competition. Our innovative prowess is underlined by the fact that we have taken part in the Hermes Award three times in six years and have finished in the top 5 on each occasion,” said Philip Harting, Head of Connectivity & Networks at the HARTING Technology Group.
